Structuring WooCommerce packaging data for EPR-related reporting

EPR-related reporting often starts with a deceptively simple question: how much packaging did you place on the market? For a WooCommerce merchant, answering that consistently requires controlled source data.

Start with material-level source data

Instead of storing one total packaging weight on a product, separate the packaging into material categories. That lets downstream reporting aggregate cardboard, plastic, glass, metals, wood and other materials independently.

Separate product and shipping packaging

Product packaging and shipping packaging are different data sources. A bottle may have glass, plastic and cardboard components, while the shipment adds a box, paper fill or mailer. Both layers can matter to the final packaging record.

Keep historical versions

Packaging specifications change over time. Versioned master data prevents a product edit today from rewriting the assumptions behind a previous year’s orders.

Retain order-level evidence

Totals are easier to defend when they can be traced back to individual orders and the source values used for each calculation. That is why PackVerity combines snapshots with an append-only ledger and reversals instead of destructive edits.

Know the boundary

PackVerity does not determine whether your company is legally obligated to report, which entity is the producer, which thresholds apply, or how a regulator expects a final filing. Those legal questions depend on jurisdiction and business circumstances. PackVerity focuses on the underlying packaging records in WooCommerce.
