WooCommerce Packaging Reporting for Germany: Source Data for LUCID

How WooCommerce packaging weights can become a reviewable source dataset for German packaging-volume reporting — without claiming automated filing.

Germany is a useful example of why packaging reporting needs clean source data. The Central Agency Packaging Register (ZSVR) states that data reporting in LUCID requires the reporting period, the name of the system, and packaging volumes by material type as mass. Volumes are entered in kilograms to three decimal places.

The official LUCID material types

The ZSVR reporting interface distinguishes eight material types for the volume entry:

  • Glass
  • Paper, paperboard and cardboard
  • Ferrous metals
  • Aluminium
  • Beverage carton packaging
  • Other composite packaging
  • Plastics
  • Other materials

Important: PackVerity Free uses seven general operational groups and does not have separate beverage-carton or other-composite fields. Do not present a PackVerity export as a finished LUCID report without validating and, where necessary, transforming the material mapping.

Where the numbers can come from in WooCommerce

A German volume report ultimately needs mass by material, but WooCommerce normally has quantities rather than packaging material mass. A robust source-data workflow therefore starts below the report:

  1. Record packaging grams for products and variations.
  2. Record the packaging mass of the boxes or mailers used for shipment.
  3. Apply product quantity and the actual shipping profile to each order.
  4. Preserve the resulting order-level record.
  5. Filter the source records for orders relevant to Germany and the required period.
  6. Map the source groups to the current LUCID categories and convert grams to kilograms.
  7. Reconcile and validate before entering the data in LUCID and reporting to the system operator.

Why the reporting period must match

ZSVR guidance says the reporting period in LUCID must match the report to the system operator, and the reported packaging volumes should align. This is another reason to keep a repeatable source dataset rather than reconstructing numbers differently for each destination.

Mass, not number of packages

The official ZSVR fact sheet explicitly distinguishes material mass from the number of packaging units. The reporting input is mass in kilograms, not a count of boxes. That makes measured or documented packaging weights an essential source field.

Example conversion228 g paper/cardboard across the order = 0.228 kg source mass

A real period report aggregates many order records before mapping and submission. The example only illustrates the unit conversion.

Does PackVerity submit to LUCID?

No. PackVerity does not log into LUCID, choose your system operator, determine which packaging is subject to system participation or submit a volume report. It can help maintain the WooCommerce source records behind a later reporting process.

PackVerity versus a Germany-only plugin

A Germany-specific tool can hard-code the eight LUCID categories and optimize its interface around that one destination. PackVerity takes a broader operational approach: general material groups, destination-country reporting, evidence references and order records that can support multiple downstream workflows. The trade-off is that Germany-specific category mapping still needs validation outside the generic Free data model.

Use the official source as the final authority

Rules and reporting instructions can change. Verify the current reporting requirements directly with ZSVR and your system operator before using any ecommerce export in a filing.

What LUCID actually asks for

The German Central Agency Packaging Register states that a data report includes the reporting period, the system operator, the material types and the packaging volumes as mass in kilograms. The official guidance also says the period and volumes reported to LUCID must match the report made to the system operator.

PackVerity material groups are not a one-click LUCID mapping

PackVerity Free uses seven operational groups: paper/cardboard, plastic, glass, aluminium, ferrous metal, wood and other. Germany’s official reporting categories distinguish additional types such as beverage carton packaging and other composite packaging. If those categories occur in your packaging, the generic “other” bucket is not enough to create an exact LUCID classification by itself.

Operational dataUse in a Germany workflow
Paper/cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminium, ferrous metalThese have direct counterparts in the official material list, subject to your own classification check.
WoodNeeds to be handled according to the applicable German reporting category for your packaging; PackVerity does not decide that mapping.
OtherMust not be assumed to equal beverage cartons, composites or every “other material” category. Keep more detailed source evidence where needed.

Why this page does not claim “LUCID-ready CSV”

A generic CSV with packaging totals is useful for reconciliation, but it is not automatically the exact input format or legal classification required by LUCID or a system operator. PackVerity deliberately describes the output as source data and summary export rather than promising a filing that the software cannot validate.
